I Wish I Could Sing Like Marvin

The house lights dim, the band starts to play the excitement in the arena is at the highest level, it's showtime. There is an explosion, colorful smoke fills the air and beat of the band shifts to a familiar sound, it's "Got to Give it Up," one of my favorite Marvin Gaye songs. The crowd rises to it's feet with a loud clamorous roar as Marvin Gaye appears on stage. Not known for his dancing skills Marvin still has enough soul to keep the crowd excited. Everyone is so charged by his presence, he has to reach out and touch as many fans as possible.
He quickly takes the crowd back to his earlier hits and we clap in appreciation for his history of work. After his medley of hits is over the lights change again and all eyes focus on Marvin as he talks about a far away lover, then the music kicks in and the familiar tune "Distant Lover"starts to play, the crowd goes wild.
At this point I'm glad to see Marvin, but I really don't think he is singing to me or any other man in the audience. Marvin has captured all the woman in the arena, it's like he is singing to each one independently. I glance over at my date and she is in another world, just like the rest of the women in the house.
Marvin Gaye had that certain something that drove the ladies wild, a good looking brother with amazing talent, but from what the women tell me, it was his sex appeal that oozed from his music that carried him above and beyond superstar status.

One might say I was jealous of him, and my response would be, "no, I just wanted to sing like him." Marvin rest in peace, your music continues to set the mood for many romantic occasions.

Ladies tell me about other singers that had that Marvin Gaye impact on you.

marvin, marvin, marvin - he could sing aaight, but he had developed the scruffy look by the time I was old enough to "appreciate" him. I know, it's sacrilige to find a flaw, but he didnt do it for me - I guess that I'm too young!!! :) Luther was definitely in my top three. He sounded as smmmmmmmoooooooooth as melted chocolate in your ears... but there was that unfortunate (for us women) ahem, orientation issue. My favorite male singer was and still is Jeffrey Osborne. He could blast out the dance tunes and he could crooooon something sweet (and make some UGLY faces to get the note out, but get it out he did!) Jeffrey STILL sounds good (saw him a couple of years ago - EXCELLENT show. AND his body is still in shape - how many of us can say that!

Chris, being too young to witness the Marvin experience, made it easier for the mere mortals out there to get their rap on. Don't get me wrong, Marvin also played the wing man in many romantic encounters. Just pop one of his records on and you let him create the mood the rest was on you.

A true performer who was the ultimate ladies man, but also a great assist man when it came to help a brother find that "Sexual Healing."
